Dubai is not just where goods pass through, it’s where opportunities take off.
And for African businesses, a new transport lifeline just got stronger.
In a move aimed at boosting global reach for UAE-based businesses, Dubai Chambers has signed an MoU with Flydubai, a major regional airline connecting 124 destinations across Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia.
What does this mean for African exporters, traders, and business families working with or through the UAE?
A lot more than just cheaper shipping.
Faster, Smarter Logistics Now with Preferential Rates
Through this agreement, members of Dubai Chambers can now access up to 20% discounts on air freight across Flydubai’s entire network. That includes routes connecting key African hubs to the UAE and beyond.
For African exporters shipping:
- Raw materials like cocoa, coffee, or cotton
- Packaged food and cosmetics
- High-demand pharma and wellness products
- Or even trade show samples and prototypes
This isn’t just a margin boost, it’s a growth enabler.
With quicker delivery, competitive rates, and smoother customs alignment through a UAE base, businesses can:
- Expand into Gulf and Asian markets faster
- Reduce warehousing overheads
- Keep goods fresher, safer, and more traceable
- Strengthen trust with buyers and partners
Why It Matters Now
The UAE has already positioned itself as a strategic base for African companies. And with trade agreements like CEPA (currently in place with Mauritius and expanding), the incentives to use Dubai as a distribution base are only growing.
This MoU reinforces that trend. It makes it even more cost-effective to set up in Dubai, and use its air connectivity as a tool for scale.
What Does It Mean to Be a “Dubai Chambers Member”?
To benefit from Flydubai’s freight discount, your company must be a registered member of Dubai Chamber of Commerce, which is one of the three chambers under Dubai Chambers.
This means:
- Your company must be legally registered in Dubai (with a valid trade license)
- You must apply for and hold an active Dubai Chamber membership certificate
- Your membership must be linked to the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, not the International Chamber or Digital Economy Chamber, unless specified otherwise
How Dawia Family Office Can Help
At Dawia Family Office, we guide African entrepreneurs and family businesses as they expand to the UAE. We help you set up strategically so that you can access these types of institutional benefits.
Here’s how we do that in practice:
- We ensure your company is registered under the correct legal form and jurisdiction (mainland Dubai or qualifying free zones) to be eligible for Dubai Chamber membership.
- We handle the Chamber membership application as part of your business setup or post-licensing phase.
- We verify eligibility with Dubai Chambers directly, including which business activities and sectors are currently included in the Flydubai freight offer.
- We assist in activating the discount once your membership is in place, by coordinating with the airline or the Chamber liaison as required.
So when we say “qualify for Dubai Chamber benefits,” we’re not guessing we’re guiding your structure from Day 1 to align with what’s actually required.
