Quick Take: Banks in the UAE are transitioning away from traditional one-time passwords (OTPs) toward in- app transaction verification. From 31 March 2026, this shift is expected to be widely implemented, with customers approving transactions directly within their banking apps using biometrics or secure PINs. This move enhances security, reduces fraud risks, and streamlines the payment experience. What Changes for Customers? Faster approvals with fewer steps and no dependency on SMS delivery. Why This Change Matters Traditional OTP-based authentication has known vulnerabilities, including phishing attacks, SIM swap fraud, and message interception.
